AMAR JOYTI CHARITABLE TRUST
For over 20 years Anita Choudhrie, Founder of Path to Success has been a patron for Amar Jyoti Trust. The school was founded in 1981, under a tree in a backyard with only 30 disabled and able students from underprivileged background. Today Amar Jyoti has more than 700 students from nursery age to year thirteen. The vision and mission of the school is to provide equal opportunities and full participation to children with difficulties and to demonstrate to the society that the mentally and physically challenged should be ACCEPTED, EMPOWERED and INTEGRATED
Path to Success has organised and cared for the Amar Jyoti school’s visit to the UK, during their International Tour “Celebrating Abilities, Glimpses from the Epics”, in May 2006. Two major and very successful events where held in London and Leicester, where the children of Amar Jyoti performed an amazing theatrical show in traditional Indian costumes.
Both events were hosted by Anita Choudhrie and Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP at the House of Commons and Leicester’s Peepul Theatre. Further to the theatrical performance, a Gala Dinner was enjoyed together with an auction of items varying from a fabulous painting by artist Paresh Maitey, to a Five-Star Spa week at the Ananda Spa in the Himalayas. Appreciation and empathy towards the cause during the fundraising brought a tear to most donors’ eyes.
The events raised an amazing total of £65 000 for the Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, who used the funds for construction of additional rooms for the school and rehabilitation centre, the purchase of a new bus, furniture, fixtures, and equipment for both the Delhi and Gwalior Centres. Two new vocational courses on textiles and industrial electronics have also been set-up through the funding received.
Path to Success is still actively supporting Amar Jyoti by adopting their Integrated basketball team. The aim is to raise awareness for the Integrated Basketball Team and to encourage and educate a better understanding of disability while instituting confidence among children with impairments. Funds for new sports wheelchairs and uniform were raised by our appeal “My Journey to a New World”
